Handicrafts workshops in Dalt Vila

The walled enclosure of Dalt Vila, declared a mankind heritage site by UNESCO in 1999, is an incomparable setting for enjoying the island’s traditional handicrafts.

In summer, the Cultural Association Es Retorn meets every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. in Dalt Vila’s parade ground to offer workshops by artisans that demonstrate the processes involved in manufacturing native Ibizan handicrafts, such as espadrilles, caps, fabrics, embroidery, baskets and more, all made from local raw materials.

The walled enclosure of the town of Ibiza was fortified by Philip II to protect it from Ottoman and pirate raids. It has five entryways; the main arch is located opposite the La Marina quarter and called Portal de Ses Taules. This arch leads to the parade grounds, a cobblestone rectangle lined by ten Roman arches.

The parade ground is the departure point for climbing up to the bastions, which house a Roman arch at the westernmost point that leads to Plaça de Vila, the vibrant heart of the quarter.
